Letter No. 11

Monday 24 November 2008

Dear Parent / Carer

Arts Week
Thank you to all those parents and carers who came along to our ‘Arts Week’ open afternoon. We hope you enjoyed looking at the work. Of course this was just a small taste of the wonderful activities that happened during the week. As well as dancing, drumming, singing and drama every child in the school also produced a Christmas card design which we have sent away to be printed and which you will be able to view and purchase if you’d like to. The children also produced a piece of original artwork that has been sent away to be framed and these will be displayed in a special exhibition later this half term. I am sure you would like to join me in thanking all our visitors and especially Annabelle Narey for organising this wonderful week.

Playground Developments
There are plans afoot to develop both the playgrounds. If there are any parents who are employees of RBS who would be able to nominate our school for a RBS playground grant, please come and see me.

Reporting to Reception
A few weeks ago, we made a request in the newsletter for parents/carers to report to the office when visiting the school during the day. Unfortunately, some parents/carers are still going straight to classes. For the safety and security of all our children, staff and visitors, please come and let us know you are here.
Thank you

Family Information Service
Information and advice on childminders in the area, after school clubs, nanny agencies, parent and toddler groups, funding and much more is available from the Family Information Service on the website www.richmond.gov.uk/fis, by calling 020 8831 6298 or emailing fis@richmond.gov.uk.

PE Questionnaire
We have been asked by the local authority to collect information about how much extra sporting activity our children do out of school – such as after school sports clubs as well as non school linked activities. (this does not include cubs, brownies etc) The teachers of the older children will be collecting this information in classes but we would appreciate your help in collecting it from the children in Years 1 and 2. Outside the classrooms, there will be a brief questionnaire for you to fill in sometime this week. The questionnaires do not need to be named but please cross your name off the class lists so we know that we have collected in information from everyone.
Thank you for your support.

Pokemon Cards and GoGos
Please do not allow your children to bring Pokemon cards or GoGo’s into school. The reason is that they get lost, stolen and cause arguments. They are also coming out during lessons and causing distraction. We will confiscate any that we do find and return them to parents/carers. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

From the PTA

Thank you.

A few comments about Arts Week from the children

“My favourite part in Arts Week was the botanical painting because of learning all about the plants with strange names including ‘Raphia’ and ‘Pandanus’”
Ruairidh Wilson Year 6

“I thought Arts Week was brilliant, I really enjoyed it. I really enjoyed the dancers and the Christmas cards. I’m really looking forward to next Arts Week!”
Sienna Kitchin Year 3

“My favourite thing was everything because it was all so much fun. I loved doing the paper mache sculptures because I got really messy hands. I loved using clay because it is also messy. The book fair was good as was the combination dance routine. Next year, can we do the same again as it was perfect!”
Tamasin Allan Year 2

“Art week gave us the experience to express our feelings through art.”
India Banks-Paton Year 6
