In line
with the National Curriculum, the children are helped to
develop an awareness of the past and to investigate
changes in people's way of life in Britain and
elsewhere. Children learn about local, national,
European and world history.
For
the youngest children, learning about the past comes
through stories and through topics such as "My family".
For older children topics include Romans, Anglo-Saxons,
Vikings, Ancient Greeks, Tudors and Stuarts, Victorians
and Britain since 1930 .
As well as knowing and understanding some aspects of
history, the children begin to develop strategies for
interpreting history; to form judgements about the
validity and reliability of historical sources; to learn
about the lives of different kinds of famous people; and
to learn about the past from a wide range of sources
including stories, artefacts and pictures.
We use
many local historical buildings and sites, and our
school building is itself an historical resource used by
our children. We also use the wonderful resources
available in London, and there are many trips out of
school to places such as the British Museum, the
Victoria and Albert Museum and the Museum of London. |
