Curriculum: Art / DT
| |

Through our art curriculum, children have the
opportunity to appreciate and enjoy a wide variety of
artistic experiences; these also include art history and
the diverse artistic traditions of the world. At Darell,
we find that knowledge and understanding go hand in hand
with creativity.
The school has a very high reputation for the quality of
its art teaching. It is obvious to the visitor that the
visual arts permeate the whole school. We hold the
nationally awarded Gold ArtsMark.
Children
are given the opportunity to explore work of different
artists. A variety of materials are used to produce
work, and each year, children will experience printing,
painting, collage, 3D work, sketching, model making and
mosaics.
We have had a number of artists-in-residence to enhance
the work led by the class teacher; this is a wonderful
opportunity for children to see how an artist uses their
tools to produce a piece of work. We have visits from
exhibition curators and the children make visits to and
work collaboratively with galleries and exhibitions.
