We have an agreed syllabus for religious
education that we are required to follow. The syllabus ensures that RE is
non-denominational.
We aim to give all children some knowledge of the Bible and of Christian beliefs. We are
aware that numbers of our children come from non-Christian families. It is also important
for children to have some knowledge of the beliefs and customs of the major world
religions found in our own community.
We aim to help the children develop a reflective approach to life and to enable and enrich
this process through the study of faiths.
An important part of the religious education of the children takes place in assemblies. We
observe the important Christian festivals such as Easter, Christmas and the harvest
festival. We also celebrate festivals from other cultures and religions such as Divali,
Eid, Chinese New Year and Hannukah. As those who come in to our assemblies will know, we
enjoy a sense of being together sharing achievements and times of prayer and quiet
reflection.
The religious sensibilities of all children are respected and nurtured. If any parent
feels that they would prefer to exercise their right to withdraw their child from
assemblies on religious grounds or from participation in any specific festivals, the
headteacher would be pleased to discuss an appropriate alternative which will allow the
child to be withdrawn in a tactful and unobtrusive manner
