Darell has a dedicated ICT room with 17 workstations, networked and linked to the Internet and to a file server.

A whole class can be taken into the ICT room to work, two to a computer. This makes it much easier to teach skills which are specific to ICT than teaching in a classroom with one or two computers. Of course there are computers in all classrooms as well.

We have recently developed a second suite of 16 laptop computers. These are housed in a mobile trolley which can be moved to any part of the first floor of the school. All rooms have wireless access so that the laptops can connect to the internet from any upstairs location. They are also networked to a file server in the main ICT room

All children have regular opportunities to use ICT for a range of purposes, including word processing and desktop publishing, artwork, spreadsheets, databases (compiling, storing and interrogating databases), control technology (including logo and floor turtles) research for topic work (using CD Rom and the Internet) and for subject specific skills. All children have their own e-mail address.

Computers are also used to help children with special educational needs and children for whom English is a second language.

Our aim is to have all children leave the school confident, competent and experienced in the use of information and communications technology.
