Geography

Return to main Curriculum Page

Our children learn geographical skills to enable them to use maps of all kinds. In addition we give them an increasing awareness and understanding of places locally, nationally and globally.

Children learn physical geography, so they study: weather and climate, the effects of water - rivers and seas - upon landforms and the biosphere (animals, plants and soils)

In the primary years we also study human geography: population settlements, communications and transport networks and economic geography. We study environmental geography and the use and misuse of natural resources.

We enjoy a good range of resources for geography. Some aspects of the subject may be taught through major half-termly projects at various times through the primary years. We use the local environment for first-hand experiences and there are a number of trips to look at our immediate local area and also to Kew Gardens and the River Thames. Our teaching and learning follow National Curriculum requirements
