Art

Return to main Curriculum Page

The National Curriculum in art has brought a new emphasis to the understanding and appreciation of art by children. For the first time primary school children are required to study art history and the diverse artistic traditions of the world: knowledge and understanding go hand in hand with creation.

The school has a very high reputation for the quality of its art teaching. It is obvious to the visitor that the visual arts permeate the teaching of the school. We have an interesting collection of prints around the school including original woodcuts and silk-screen prints by adult and child artists.

The children work individually and in groups. They produce art in two and three dimensions and in all different sizes.

Visit to the Henry Moore Foundation Penguins

We have had a number of artists-in-residence. You may find evidence of the residencies around the school corridors. We have visits from exhibition curators and the children make visits to galleries and exhibitions.
